City to City Auto Racing
By Toby Trumbill The invention of the automobile allowed people to travel faster from one destination to another. Not long after that, races between various cars were organized. Since there were no race tracks developed yet, competitions such as city to city motor racing happened regularly.
The first ever race happened in France towards the late 19th century. Most of the companies who participated in this event more than a hundred years ago still dominate the automobile industry today. These companies included Mercedes Benz and Daimler-Chrysler.
A year after the first race was held in France, this was introduced in the United States over a 54 square mile course. Those who participated in such events changed the shape of the car and the type of engines that were used making these machines faster than before.
After the end of the Second World War, city to city racing was introduced in Asia and in the Middle East. This allowed other car manufacturers such as Mitsubishi, Nissan and Toyota to join in a competition that was once dominated by the Europeans.
Another thing that changed city to city racing was that drivers did not have to operate a four wheeled vehicle to get into the action. Motorcycles were also used making automobile racing one of the most popular sports in the world.
Since it is hard for the spectators to watch city to city motor racing the whole time, organizers decided to make a race track. Drivers will have to go around a course a number to

determine who is the winner.
A few examples of such events are the Formula One, A1 Grand Prix and NASCAR. Each of these vehicles has an engine that allows the driver to travel more than 220 miles per hour on the course.
Rally racing or rallying is the best way to enjoy city to city racing. This is because the drivers do not only drive from one destination to another on a public road but at times also go off road.
Organizers of such city to city race events make the competitors go from one point to another through a number of stages across various terrains. Someone usually accompanies the driver who acts as a co-driver or navigator to make sure the participants do not get lost along the way. The team that makes who finishes the course the fastest wins the race.
A few examples of these are the World Rally Championships. This is done over various legs regionally before the final event. Other countries have also made similar events such as the Monte Carlo Rally and the Paris-Dakar Rally.
Most city to city events are shown on television. If there is one nearby, it will be a good idea to watch these live to experience the thrill of these vehicles passing by.
What if the person doesn't want to watch and would like to join the motor racing event? The good news is anyone can join the race but the individual will first have to make some changes on the engine and in the interior of the car.
This is because most competitors don't have a backseat, a stereo and other things that are just excess weight on the vehicle. The lighter the vehicle is, the higher the chances the driver won't be the last to finish the race. Toby Trumbill is a lifelong racing enthusiast, and amateur racer.
