Motor racing or motorsport may also mean motorcycle racing, and can include motorboat racing and air racing. It is one of the world's most popular spectator sports and perhaps the most thoroughly commercialized.

Extreme Car Racing Tricks

By Toby Trumbill
Driving a car is quite simple. It is only by shifting the gear and stepping on either the gas or the pedal that will make the vehicle go forward or backward.

But when the driver needs to make sharp turn a few yards away before crashing into the barrier, it takes some skill to pull this off. Stunt men are able to do this and with a little practice, the tricks from extreme car motor racing can be learned and used by almost anyone.

One technique that is used very often is called drifting. This is achieved using a difference in slip angle between the front and rear tires of the car. The trick is having the wheels in the back chase the front end during a turn causing the vehicle to slide across the surface.

By stepping on the gas, this will increase the angle in the back causing an opposite lock between the front and rear so that the car will not flip to one side during a turn.

Though drifting may be one trick, there are different ways to achieve this.

1. The first is called the hand brake or emergency brake drift. Normally, the individual will step on the brake pedal. But in this case, the driver will pull up the hand brake to achieve the desired effect.

2. Next is called the power over steer or power slide. The person will have to accelerate fast in a turn so that the wheels may use some traction on the road. People should take note that this can only be done on an all wheel drive vehicle.

3.

The shift lock can only be done on manual cars. Instead of stepping on the brake, the driver will have to switch the gear from third to second or from fourth to third quickly which works very well in tight corners.

4. The brake drift, which drivers normally do, is achieved by stepping on the break. This will cause the whole weight of the vehicle go to the front. The person must switch on the throttle quickly so that the rear wheel will lose traction allowing the car to make that turn.

5. The clutch kick is very similar to shift lock. The only difference is that the individual will shift from fourth gear to neutral and back again to send a shock through the power train causing the vehicle to slip.

6. The individual may also try the dirt drop by putting the rear wheels into the outer edge of the racetrack then accelerating away as a good push off. This can only be achieved if there are rocks or some foliage on the ground.

7. The last is called the inertial drift. The various techniques mentioned rely on the clutch or on the brake. Here the driver will have to put emphasis on the wheel. The person will first have to steer away from the corner then quickly turning back to achieve the right drifting line.

Some drivers have applied the emergency brake when this happens to make sure this is done correctly rather than crashing into a barrier.

Drifting is perhaps the most common trick used in extreme auto racing. There are many ways to do this so it is best to practice this because the driver has to know to know which one to use depending on the conditions of the racecourse.
