History
This type of road racing dates back to 1894 when car manufacturers started producing autos that are powered by petrol fuels. The first contest was first organized by Le Petit Journal, a Paris magazine from France.
The contest, as it is today, was organized to verify the level of performance of the car that was produced before it will be manufactured on a larger scale. In 1895, France held the first ever touring contest.
